How Blue Is My Ocean? by Bipasha Sen Gupta

6th June 2011

“Because I am a whimsical person, my favourite piece is this” she said, pointing at a beautifully drawn painting which resembled corals of yellows, and red's. It was Bipasha Sen Gupta, an Indian artist, and an environmentalist. She is making an effort to present out all our concerns and fears for the environment, especially the oceans, through the means of art at the currently ongoing exhibition at the national art gallery, titled ‘How Blue Is My Ocean?’.

This self-taught artist inaugurated her first painting exhibition here in the Maldives last night. The exhibition portrayed the artwork representing the damaged, yet the beautiful corals and reefs underwater.

Bipasha has been drawing since the tender age of eight, and since then, has grown to love and respect the environment and Mother Nature. However, she never went commercial, up until 4 years ago, when she realised that painting just for herself was not enough: insufficient, if she were to reach out to society. She has since then drawn and donated paintings for great events, and organisations like UNESCO.
